Well Done to our club captain Jake Wood, our 2018 Best and Fairest Winner.
Jake’s win was announced last Saturday night at the Clubs Presentation evening held at the Pier Hotel in Port Melbourne.
Jake arrived on the night placed 3rd behind Louis Mildenhall and Callum Cathcart after round 12. Jake had an outstanding finish to the season recognised by his peers, players, coaches and the competition taking out the winning vote in the final round against East Malvern.
In his acceptance speech, Jake thanked his team mates, coaching staff, volunteers around the club, and all those who helped him develop his football throughout his career at the Port Colts.
Club President, Stephen Duvnjak handed Jake his award Saturday night stating that no one else deserved to win this in 2018 as much as Jake. “His work ethic was second to none from Preseason right up until the last round, and his leadership this year has been invaluable to the club through a tough year”.
Jake took the opportunity when accepting the award and announced his contract extension for 2019, confirming that he has put pen to paper and will play under new coach Lindsay Gilbee. “We have a good vibe at the club and are building some good momentum towards next season, which I strongly believe will be a year to remember and something I want to be a part of”.
On behalf of the entire club, congratulations Jake!!
